Talent and sustainable architecture came together this Thursday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Madrid as the focal points of the 13th edition of the Porcelanosa Awards. The Spanish multinational held its annual award ceremony to show its recognition for the commitment of all the professionals in the world of architecture, design, hotel management and property development who have stood up for sustainability and innovation in their projects.
The winning proposals and their social functionality in the new urban planning being implemented in large and medium-sized cities were shown during the Award ceremony, which was presented by the journalist Susanna Griso and Michi Primo de Rivera.
The hotel design of the future
This architectural redesign that seeks new ways to build and inhabit spaces was reflected in each of the winners' speeches and proposals. This is the case of the PR-132 project by María Ying Fernández Arjona, which won the Future Design Award in the Student category for its bright and multifunctional approach to a presidential hotel suite. Linking the life of a hotel to the natural environment was also the main idea behind The Sea, a presidential suite designed by Ángela Acevedo del Álamo (3A interior design) in accordance with the principles of well-being, serenity and balance, which won the Future Design Award in the professional category for its organic design using Porcelanosa collections.
Another main theme of the 13th Porcelanosa Awards was sustainable design in the residential and hotel sector. The winners of honorary awards included, among others, the Odiseo leisure centre in Murcia (Design of the Year Award and Special Award 2022), the Only YOU Hotel in Valencia (Best Interior Design Project Award) and the Ibiza Corso hotel (Best Hotel Project Award).
In the office and corporate arena, awards were given to the Acciona Campus in Madrid (Best Sustainable Project Award) and the Méndez Álvaro Campus by Colonial (Award for the Best Corporate Office Complex, Flexible Offices, Residential and Retail) for their application of the principles of energy efficiency and dynamism to their main structures.
Highlights: Susana García-Cereceda and Diller Scofidio+ Renfro
The people to whom tribute was paid on the night include Susana García-Cereceda (Career Achievement Award for the La Finca residential complex) and the US architecture firm Diller Scofidio+Renfro, whose partner Charles Renfro collected the award on behalf of the team. Renfro spoke for the democratisation of architecture and the need to rethink cities from the point of view of urban planning and the visual and performing arts and appealed to the need to fight climate change through a more sustainable and plural architecture, which has been his firm's main mission since it was founded in 1979.
